Frequently Asked Questions
Emu Chicks will most likely need to be in the home in their own little pen or in a heated outdoor room since they are born during cold season. The main concern with adult emus is fencing. You must have a 6 ft NO-CLIMB fence or they can escape. A lot of Emus will not use an outdoor shelter unless taught very young to go in to escape the harsh winter elements. We do NOT leave our Emus outside unattended until they are 5-6 months old due to predators. We keep them in a predator proof pen until they are big enough to defend themselves. Adult Emus need room to stretch their legs, walk and run. Never have too many emus in a small area. Do some research and see if your space is large enough before purchasing.
We are always able to add you to our wait list. You can email us at ginger@hippiehenshomestead.com or text 661-805-1064. We will go down the list and call you to keep you updated on hatch dates. You do not need to pay a deposit until goslings or emus hatch. If you do not own an emu or Sebastopol goose already, we require that you purchase two of the same breed so they do not get lonely. If you are seeking a male or female specifically, we can send off a sample to IQ Bird Testing and confirm gender. Otherwise, our birds are sold as straight run. Our sexed females will run slightly higher.
